Readings for Sunday, May 4, 2008 

First Reading — Jesus tells the disciples that they will be witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:1-11).

Psalm — God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord (Psalm 47).

Second Reading — May the Father of glory give you a Spirit of wisdom and revelation (Ephesians 1:17-23).

Gospel — Jesus instructs the eleven to baptize and teach people of all nations (Matthew 28:16-20).

Event Description: 

Candidates, catechumens and volunteers working with RCIA and RCIC are sponsoring this week’s Lenten soup supper in Beck Hall on Friday, Feb. 29. Everyone is invited to take part in this beloved parish tradition where a different ministry hosts a meatless supper each week of Lent. Afterward, a separate ministry hosts Stations of the Cross in the church. The meal begins at 5:30 p.m. and is followed by Stations at 7 p.m. The food is free, but donations are taken to support our St. Vincent de Paul Society and the work it does with the needy in our community.

The response to last summer’s Taize’ prayer service was so extraordinary that we’re planning another one of these very special services for our community. So, mark your calendars now for Friday, August 10th at 7 p.m. Taize’ has been described as the word of God set to music. It features Scripture readings, meditative common prayer, and singing that never ends because it continues in the silence of your own heart even when the service is over. A reception will follow in Beck Hall. Everyone is invited to attend.
